Wied & Hackler started doing business on May 1st 1973 initially out of a garage where a used Battenfeld injection moulding machine was refurbished as a sideline from January 1973 onwards. With a small investment, the company began to look for standard industrial orders and soon secured its first major contract for €30,000 to supply tulip pins. At the time a sizeable order.
From the beginning, the founders Hans-Georg Wied (Design and Development) and Hans Hackler (Business Development) were in an open agreement that all proceeds from the business could be reinvested. A further, used Battenfeld injection moulding machine, two used Alpine mills for granular powder, and a used cooling facility including a transformer were therefore bought to cope with the increasing demands on the power supply.
Though work was freely available, Wied and Hackler decided to branch out and develop their own design and manufacturing process in addition to taking on commissions. This led to an opportunity for becoming a supplier of small plastic parts to the furniture industry. This area remains a substantial part of the business today.
The company was re-named in 1984 as HA-WI Kunststoffe GmbH and has retained that name ever since. In that same year, the company moved to larger premises on the industrial estate ‘In den Espen’, where it remains until today.
